Get Active Specialist (Part-time) - (Ref: GAS)

Salary: Up to £15,600 (24 hours per week)

Broxbourne Council is looking for a qualified (Level 3 Exercise on Referral) Fitness Professional who is enthusiastic and passionate about helping inactive, clinically vulnerable individuals improve their quality of life through exercise. The Get Active Specialist will be based in a number of participating GP surgeries, working alongside primary healthcare professionals who will refer patients to you. You will use motivational interviewing and behavior change techniques to support clients to become physically active, including signposting them to a programme of subsidized activity classes.

You will manage a caseload of approximately 300 patients per annum. You will use clinical systems and referral programmes to contact patients for their initial and follow-up consultations, and record their engagement with the Active Herts programme to enable reports to be made to clinicians. You will support the Senior Get Active Specialist at meetings and presentations, managing fitness coaches, evaluating the effectiveness of the activity sessions, following financial procedures and promoting the programme.

In addition, you will be required to teach and/or cover a number of low impact exercise classes throughout the Borough, including Waltham Cross, Cheshunt, Wormley, Broxbourne and Hoddesdon. You will be responsible for ensuring these are run safely and that all monitoring is completed. Previous experience of teaching exercise classes and working with adults who are at risk of cardiovascular diseases and mild to moderate mental health conditions is required.

This is a one-year fixed-term contract with the potential for expansion. For further information about the post, please contact Andrew Rix, the Council’s Get Active Specialist on 07506 503316 or email andrew.rix@broxbourne.gov.uk
